The traditional Shore Lunch recipe for cooking walleye over an open campfire was very simple - and to my mind, it’s still the best.
You travel light while in a canoe. So you only have one frying pan, the best choice being a 10-12 inch cast iron deep dish frying pan. Once you find a place to set up your tent for the evening, plan where you will set up, then light your cooking fire. Set up your camp site while tending the fire occasionally. Then head down to the lake and grab your stringer walleye, and clean today’s catch - placing the fresh fillet’s into a bowl of clean water.
By this time the fire has burned down to some nice coals and you can break out the campfire cooking gear; a grate for above the fire and your frying pan.
The most basic walleye recipie is 1/4 pound of butter in the pan with salt and pepper - toss in the walleye and cook till golden brown. Delicious.
Often, the old-time trappers - who were often the first Finlanders to clear and settle Northwestern Ontario - would take the trouble to carry a bag of crushed Kellogs Corn Flakes. The fresh walleye fillete were taken from the bowl of water and coated with Corn Flakes and/or flour with salt and pepper before they were cooked in the melted butter. Delicious too!
Today there are a number of different, unique and outstanding Recipies for cooking Walleye.
Hope you enjoy them all!

Keewatin Ontario Walleye Fishing

Plan your Fishing Trips with WalleyeBook.com We are gathering Fishing Videos, articles on Fishing Gear, reviews on the best fishing lures and a list of what to bring walleye fishing in the form of a fishing trip checklist, plus fishing tips from Walleye Anglers everywhere!
Keewatin Walleye Outfitters are proud to provide excellent personal service, with friendly, experienced, professional fishing guides.
Keewatin is located in Northwestern Ontario, north of Minnesota.
A Keewatin Walleye Fishing Lodge in Northwestern Ontario provides the ideal Family Fishing Vacation.
Understanding Walleye Behavior is especially important for successful angling. Early in the spring, before opening weekend, the Walleye and spawning. This vital period in the lifecyle of the Walleye is protected.
After Opening Weekend, sometime in May each year, a good angler will study important details about conditions that are ideal for Walleye fishing. Walleye are affected by light levels and the wind as well as their underwater structure and cover.
Jigging Techniques are amoung the most popular and successful Walleye fishing strategies. Many anglers swear by Vertical jigging methods using Jigging rods and special Stinger hooks.
Lures and Bait are always a good bet when fishing for Walleye. The best walleye lures include a combination of a spinner and minnow. The outfitters around my area of Northwestern Ontario sell a lot of Leeches for walleye - but I personally find Leeches revolting, and prefer to bring a bucket of minnows.

Winter Ice Fishing for Walleye in Northwestern Ontario requires a few pieces of special Ice fishing gear and a working knowledge of Ice fishing safety tips and extra preparation, just in case in unthinkable happends and you fall through the ice.
Finding walleye in winter is another challenge. Before you drill your holes, you’ll want to learn how to use your Fishfinders through the ice to find where the Walleye are schooling. Have you ever heard of a story of a Frozen fish coming back to life? Download the Walleye Fishing Book to find out if this Urban Myth is true!
The avid walleye fisherman can spend a fortune on his fishing Boat and Accessories, or have everything provided by a Fishing Lodge, Fly-in Camp or one of our top-rated Walleye Fishing Outfitters!

Dryden Ontario is a great place to visit for vacation! It’s a big enough small town to have the services you may be used to, but far enough in the wilderness to have Walleye fishing to dream about.
